A number of military units affiliated to the Russian Air Defense Forces landed in Egypt on Saturday to participate in the joint Egyptian-Russian training drills dubbed ‘Friendship Arrow 1’.
The drills are scheduled to be hosted by Egypt for the first time during the period between October 26 to November 7th.
The Russian troops, as part of air defense units, will carry out combat missions at the Air Defense training ground of Egypt.
The drills also include training activities on combat shooting exercises between the Egyptian and Russian troops.
They also will include carrying out a number of offensive and defensive operations targeting vital sites with a view to fostering the combat capabilities of the two countries.
Egypt aims to exchange expertise with Russia, as well as to develop and strengthen military and defense industry cooperation.
The drills will be participated by a big number of troops and military units of the 4th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District.
Egypt regularly holds military exercises with Arab, African and Western countries to boost military collaboration and exchange expertise.
The drill also aims to support cooperation between the Egyptian and Russian Air Defense forces, provide knowledge on the latest naval combat techniques and hone skills of the participating forces.
Last September, joint US-Egyptian military drills called Bright Star 2018 were hosted in the Egypt's North Coast.
A number of land, naval and air forces from Egypt, the US, Greece, Jordan, the UK, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Italy and France as well as 16 observing countries participated in the drills, and approximately 800 US military service members participated in these exercises .
