The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Tuesday the resumption of drilling operations at the Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean Sea.
This move comes after a temporary halt that lasted several months due to technical and logistical challenges.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Tarek El Molla, emphasized that the resumption of drilling at the Zohr field reflects the Egyptian government's commitment to developing its natural resources and boosting natural gas production to meet domestic needs and support exports.
He highlighted that Zohr is one of the most significant gas discoveries in the region, contributing substantially to Egypt's self-sufficiency in natural gas.
The new drilling activities are expected to increase the field’s production by 20% over the next six months, enhancing Egypt’s export capacities and creating new job opportunities in the oil and gas sector.
Discovered in 2015 and commencing production in 2017, the Zohr gas field is the largest in the Mediterranean, boasting estimated reserves of approximately 30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
