Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that the country’s support for Arab nations is consistent in both word and action, stressing that it is a principled position rather than a matter for political debate.
The remarks came during an expanded meeting of the Senate’s Foreign, Arab and African Affairs Committee, chaired by Mohamed Kamal, and attended by senior officials and committee members.
At the start of the session, Kamal highlighted the importance of regular briefings by the foreign minister on Egypt’s external policy priorities. He noted that the committee is currently reviewing key issues, including Egypt’s engagement with Africa, the role of soft power in foreign policy, the situation of Egyptians abroad, and the activation of parliamentary diplomacy to strengthen ties with international legislatures.
The minister outlined Egypt’s foreign policy approach, which is based on strategic balance and diversified partnerships, in line with the country’s broader national vision. He emphasized that Cairo continues to pursue policies aimed at protecting national interests while maintaining stability in a complex regional environment.
On regional developments, the minister stressed that Egypt remains committed to supporting Arab countries and safeguarding regional security. He underscored ongoing efforts to de-escalate conflicts and prevent further military escalation, pointing to the broader impact of instability on international security.
The discussions also covered several regional files. Egypt reaffirmed its position on preserving Sudan’s unity and state institutions, maintaining its established stance on Libya, and continuing efforts to support stability in Gaza. The minister reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians or undermine their rights.
On water security, he emphasized that Egypt’s rights to Nile water resources are non-negotiable, describing them as a national priority.
The meeting also addressed economic diplomacy and the importance of attracting investment, alongside enhancing engagement with Egyptians living abroad. The minister revealed plans to host a conference for Egyptian expatriates in August, aimed at addressing their concerns and strengthening coordination between government institutions and parliament.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize consular services through digital transformation, improving accessibility and efficiency for citizens overseas.
The session concluded with a discussion on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, particularly with the European Parliament and the United States Congress, with the ministry expressing full support for initiatives that enhance Egypt’s international partnerships and serve its national interests.
