Egypt has been re-elected as a member of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), reaffirming its pivotal role in promoting global peace and stability.
The decision, announced during the recent UN General Assembly session, highlights Egypt's continued commitment to addressing challenges in post-conflict reconstruction and sustainable development.
Egypt's re-election reflects international recognition of its efforts in fostering dialogue, supporting development initiatives, and contributing to peacebuilding operations in Africa and beyond.
Over the years, the country has played a significant role in mediating conflicts, offering technical expertise, and providing resources to assist nations emerging from crises.
In a statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the country, emphasizing its dedication to multilateralism and cooperation.
"Egypt will continue to work closely with international partners to ensure that peacebuilding efforts are inclusive, sustainable, and effective in addressing the root causes of conflict," the statement read.
The Peacebuilding Commission, established in 2005, serves as an intergovernmental advisory body supporting peace efforts in countries recovering from conflict. Its mission includes mobilizing resources, coordinating international support, and ensuring the integration of peacebuilding into broader development frameworks.
Egypt’s renewed membership in the PBC aligns with its broader foreign policy objectives, including its leadership within the African Union and its advocacy for the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This achievement underscores Egypt's growing influence on the global stage as a key player in promoting peace, security, and development.
