Egypt has been reelected as a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for another four-year term, showing a list of winner states released by UNESCO on Wednesday.

Egypt, which has been a member of the UNESCO Executive Board from 2013 to 2021, garnered 130 out 184 votes in an electoral group including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Morocco, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez announced.

He added these victory crowns efforts made by the ministry and Egyptian embassies and envoys to garner votes in favor of re-electing Egypt as a UNESCO executive board member.

He added the re-election of Egypt for consecutive terms in the UNESCO is considered an international recognition of Egypt’s active role and position in the UN generally and the UNESCO specifically.

After winning the vote, Cairo will reserve its seat at the UNESCO’s executive council for a further four years, ending in 2025.

The result reflects the international community's great confidence in Egypt and the high diplomatic and cultural status that Cairo enjoys at the international level, the spokesman noted, expressing his gratitude of all states that supported Egypt in the UNESCO elections.
