Egypt’s Foreign Minister held a high-level phone call Friday with Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister as regional leaders scramble to contain a dangerous surge in military tensions across the Middle East.

According to Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, spoke with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to review rapidly unfolding regional developments and assess the implications of recent military escalations.

The conversation comes amid heightened concerns following a series of attacks that have affected Qatar and several other countries in the region, raising fears of broader instability.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, said the discussion focused on the repercussions of recent assaults targeting Qatar and other Gulf states, as well as Jordan and Iraq.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s “full solidarity” with Qatar and its Gulf partners, condemning the attacks and rejecting what he described as any attempts to justify or rationalize them.

The Egyptian minister stressed that such actions risk pushing the region toward a wider and more dangerous conflict, at a time when diplomatic efforts are urgently needed to prevent further escalation.

During the call, Abdelatty underscored the importance of halting the attacks immediately and preventing the region from sliding into what officials described as “comprehensive chaos.”

“The priority now must be to stop the escalation and protect regional stability,” the Egyptian minister emphasized, according to the official statement.

Qatar’s leadership welcomed Egypt’s position. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed appreciation for Cairo’s supportive stance and its solidarity with Gulf states during what he described as a “sensitive and critical moment” for the region.

The call reflects growing diplomatic coordination between Arab states as tensions mount. Governments across the Middle East have been increasingly engaged in consultations aimed at containing the fallout from recent military developments.

Analysts note that Egypt, one of the region’s most influential diplomatic actors, has often played a mediating role during periods of crisis. Cairo’s outreach to Doha signals a broader effort to maintain regional cohesion and prevent the situation from spiraling into a wider confrontation.
