Egypt’s Ministry of Finance is moving forward with plans to modernize the country’s Treasury and Mint Authority through new local and international partnerships with private sector companies, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk announced on Friday.
The initiative aims to expand the production of commemorative coins capable of competing more effectively in domestic and international markets, while also improving operational efficiency and ensuring the sustainable supply of circulating metallic coins used in daily transactions.
Kouchouk made the remarks during his first official field visit to the Treasury and Mint Authority, where he toured the minting factory and museum and reviewed the various stages of producing circulating and commemorative coins, as well as medals, decorations, and state honors.
The minister praised the institution’s technical and human capabilities, saying the workforce plays an important role in preserving Egypt’s national identity and presenting “an honorable image of Egyptian industry.”
“The ministry is seeking to introduce innovative and diverse commemorative coin designs that reflect Egypt’s history and national symbols,” Kouchouk said during the visit.
He also encouraged employees and technicians to continue developing creative and high-quality designs, emphasizing the importance of transforming artistic ideas into products executed with precision and professionalism.
According to the minister, the modernization strategy extends beyond industrial development and includes strengthening the cultural and historical role of the Mint Authority through special editions documenting key national events and prominent historical figures.
The Treasury and Mint Authority is responsible for producing Egypt’s metallic currency, commemorative coins, official medals, and state decorations, and is considered one of the country’s oldest sovereign industrial institutions.
Senior Finance Ministry officials, including the ministry’s permanent undersecretary, the minister’s engineering adviser, and the head of the Treasury and Mint Authority, accompanied Kouchouk during the tour.
