Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced significant new oil and gas discoveries in the Western Desert and the Nile Delta, marking a renewed momentum in the country's exploration efforts and energy self-sufficiency strategy.
According to a statement released by the ministry, two new gas discoveries have been made in the Nile Delta region, representing the first such finds in nearly two years. The initial production capacity of these wells is estimated at 19 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The first of the two discoveries was made by UK-based Harbour Energy, operating through Desouq Petroleum Company, from the North Sidi Ghazy 9-1 well. The second find came from UAE-based Dana Gas, through its joint venture Wasco (Wastani Petroleum Company), with the Salma Delta-6 well in West El Qantara.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Western Desert continues to be a focal point for energy exploration, with several oil and gas finds reported across multiple concessions. Khalda Petroleum Company has brought online a series of new wells with a combined output of 3,550 barrels of crude oil and 23 million cubic feet of gas per day, tapping previously unexplored production layers.
Additionally, Agiba Petroleum Company announced a successful discovery from its Dorra-44 well, producing over 500 barrels per day, while the General Petroleum Company (GPC) added a new well in the Abu Sennan area, now yielding around 350 barrels daily.
Petrosanan Petroleum, operating in the East Alam El Shawish block, reported a fresh discovery from its HG34/1 D-1X well, now tied into production with an output nearing 1,000 barrels per day.
Further discoveries have also been reported by PetroBaker and Cheiron Petroleum, which together struck three new finds in Egypt’s Eastern Desert, South Ghazalat, and North Umm Baraka regions. The companies are currently evaluating reserves and conducting well testing.
Since July 2025, Egypt has recorded 18 new hydrocarbon discoveries, of which 13 have already been brought into production, the ministry confirmed. These wells contribute a combined daily output of approximately 14,000 barrels of oil and condensates and 44 million cubic feet of gas.
The surge in domestic production comes at a critical time as the government seeks to reduce reliance on energy imports, bolster foreign exchange reserves, and ensure energy security amid global market volatility.
“These new discoveries reinforce our commitment to maximizing Egypt’s natural resource base and driving investment into the upstream sector,” the ministry said in its statement.
