The Minister of Environment and current President of the Ministerial Council of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA), Yasmine Fouad, held a virtual coordination meeting with the Jordanian Minister of Environment, Maawiya Al-Radaideh, to discuss the latest developments in PERSGA’s action plan and preparations for Jordan’s upcoming presidency of the council.
The next ministerial meeting is scheduled to be held at Aqaba, Jordan, in February.
At the beginning of the meeting, Fouad emphasized the deep and historic ties between Egypt and Jordan.
She highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts during its presidency of PERSGA’s 20th ministerial session, particularly in linking climate change mitigation with biodiversity conservation.
She stressed the importance of continuing collaborative efforts to support the organization in fulfilling its regional environmental commitments.
The meeting also showcased Egypt’s achievements under its presidency, including proposals for PERSGA’s development, strategies to mobilize financial resources, and initiatives to enhance the organization’s role in addressing environmental challenges in the Red Sea region.
Discussions also covered emerging global environmental issues, such as climate change and plastic pollution, particularly from the perspective of developing countries.
