Egypt has joined a formal appeal submitted to the United Nations, calling for a halt to arms exports to Israel due to concerns that these weapons could be used against Palestinians in the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem. The appeal was addressed to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the General Assembly.

This letter, backed by 52 countries along with the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), urges immediate international action to restrict arms sales that could be used in conflict with Palestinians. Egypt has been active within a core group of nations advocating for this appeal, engaging in diplomatic efforts to garner widespread support. According to Egyptian officials, the initiative aims to build international pressure on Israel to halt what they describe as continuous violations of international law and humanitarian rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The letter specifically highlights grave Israeli violations of international law in Palestinian territories and calls for immediate steps to suspend arms exports to Israel that could be deployed against Palestinian civilians. Advocates argue that these measures are necessary to address ongoing abuses and ensure protection for Palestinians. The appeal aligns with international resolutions condemning violence against Palestinian civilians, reinforcing the message that such restrictions are needed to mitigate the conflict’s human toll.

The letter further calls on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility in promoting international peace and security, urging concrete measures to protect civilians and ensure accountability for any actions that breach international laws.
