Egypt, Iraq Discuss Regional Issues, Ways to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Foreign Minister (FM) Badr Abdelatty, met on Sunday with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister (PM) and Foreign Minister (FM) Fuad Hussein.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast support for Iraq’s security and stability. 

He also praised the significant progress in Egyptian-Iraqi relations over recent years and highlighted the joint efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Moreover, he also emphasized the importance of advancing projects between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan within the framework of trilateral cooperation.

The meeting included an exchange of views on key regional issues. 

In addition, Abdelatty provided an update on the preparations for the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Cairo on March 4, focusing on the situation in Gaza. 

He also discussed Egypt’s efforts to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the reconstruction plan being formulated, and the necessity of working toward a lasting and just political solution for the Palestinian cause.

Furthermore, both ministers also discussed developments in Syria. 

In this regard, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm stance in support of the Syrian state, emphasizing respect for its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. 

He also stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation to facilitate an inclusive political process that involves all components of the Syrian people without exclusion. 

Additionally, FM underscored the need to combat terrorism and extremism, ensuring that Syria becomes a pillar of stability in the region.
