Egypt has finalized more than five agreements with international organizations and global companies aimed at localizing pharmaceutical production and strengthening human-resource capabilities in the health sector, the Ministry of Health and Population announced on Thursday.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s spokesperson, said the World Conference on Population and Health underscores the idea that global progress in health is interconnected. “The world is now a small village where countries share both their successes and their setbacks,” he told Alqahera News.
“The success of one country supports another, and a challenge in one place can be overcome by progress elsewhere.”
Abdel Ghaffar revealed that Egypt signed a new cooperation agreement with Latvia—renowned for its expertise in medical tourism and universal health coverage. He said the partnership will support Egypt’s efforts to develop its universal health insurance system and strengthen its position as a regional destination for health tourism.
He added that the conference also saw the signing of additional agreements with UN agencies and multinational companies focused on localizing drug manufacturing, developing healthcare professionals, and expanding national public-health initiatives.
Abdel Ghaffar noted that the final two days of the conference are expected to bring further agreements with partner and friendly countries, as well as international health organizations.
