Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Saturday with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to discuss rapidly evolving regional developments and ways to reduce military escalation across the Middle East.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conversation focused on the dangerous escalation currently unfolding in the region and the expanding scope of conflict. Both ministers exchanged views on how to manage the ongoing crisis and limit further military confrontation.
The two sides agreed on the importance of intensifying international efforts to prevent the region from sliding into a full-scale regional war. They also stressed the need for continued coordination to support de-escalation and prioritize diplomatic solutions in addressing the current tensions.
Growing Concerns Over Regional Conflict
During the call, the Egyptian and French foreign ministers discussed the broader implications of escalating conflicts in the Middle East, highlighting the serious economic, security, and geostrategic consequences such developments could have not only on the region but also on the global economy.
Officials warned that ongoing hostilities risk triggering far-reaching disruptions, including rising energy prices, higher food costs, and increased shipping and maritime insurance expenses, all of which could place additional pressure on national economies.
Both ministers reaffirmed the importance of diplomatic engagement and international cooperation in managing the crisis and avoiding further instability.
Egypt Condemns Israeli Violations in Lebanon
The discussion also addressed the situation in Lebanon. Egypt’s foreign minister stressed the urgent need to halt Israeli violations and attacks on Lebanese territory.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s strong condemnation and complete rejection of any actions that threaten Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability. Cairo has repeatedly called for respecting international law and preventing further escalation along the Lebanese front.
Egypt Seeks EU Financial Support Amid Economic Pressures
In a separate part of the conversation, Egypt’s foreign minister expressed hope that France would support the swift release of the second tranche of the European Union’s macro-financial assistance package for Egypt, aimed at supporting the country’s national budget.
The requested support is intended to help Egypt address the severe economic pressures caused by ongoing regional conflicts, including the surge in energy and food prices as well as rising shipping and maritime insurance costs.
These economic pressures have significantly affected Egypt’s economy, prompting Cairo to seek accelerated financial assistance from European partners.
Strategic Coordination Between Egypt and France
At the conclusion of the call, both ministers agreed to maintain close consultation and coordination within the framework of the strategic partnership between Egypt and France.
They also emphasized their joint commitment to pursuing diplomatic pathways to reduce tensions and prevent the region from slipping into deeper instability.
