Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call Thursday with Dubravka Šuica, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, as part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening relations between Egypt and the European Union.

During the call, Abdelatty welcomed the significant progress in Egypt–EU relations, particularly following the Egypt–EU summit held last October. He said the summit provided strong momentum for expanding cooperation, especially in implementing the six pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides.

The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the summit and continuing to expand economic, investment, and trade cooperation across various sectors.

Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s hope for the swift disbursement of the second tranche of the EU’s financial support package to Cairo. He noted that the ongoing regional military escalation has had negative effects on energy prices, international shipping routes, and global supply chains, in addition to reducing revenues from the Suez Canal and impacting the Egyptian economy.

The two sides also exchanged views on the proposed Mediterranean Pact action plan. Abdelatty presented Egypt’s vision for the initiative and highlighted several potential projects and programs aimed at strengthening integration among Mediterranean countries and addressing shared challenges while promoting economic, social, and cultural opportunities.

The conversation also addressed regional developments amid the ongoing military escalation in the Middle East. Abdelatty emphasized the need for intensified regional and international efforts to reduce tensions and prioritize diplomatic and political solutions.
