Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Thursday with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas to discuss regional developments, de-escalation efforts, and ways to strengthen Egypt–EU relations.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the talks focused on enhancing the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Egypt and the European Union, particularly following the first Egypt–EU Summit held in Brussels in October. Both sides welcomed the notable progress in bilateral relations across political, economic, and security tracks, and stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultation to advance shared interests.

Abdelatty underscored the need to build on the outcomes of the summit by implementing the memoranda of understanding signed in various fields, attracting additional European investments to Egypt, facilitating greater access for Egyptian exports to European markets, and expanding cooperation with the private sector.

The call also addressed key regional issues, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty reiterated the necessity of coordinated regional and international efforts to ensure the implementation of the second phase of the U.S. president’s plan. He emphasized support for the National Committee for Gaza Management as a temporary transitional body tasked with administering daily affairs in preparation for the return of the Palestinian National Authority to the enclave.

He further stressed the urgency of deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, and facilitate Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, noting that these steps would pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction in line with the needs of Palestinians.

On Sudan, Abdelatty briefed the EU’s top diplomat on Egypt’s ongoing efforts within the framework of the Quartet mechanism, calling for an immediate humanitarian truce as a prelude to a comprehensive ceasefire and an inclusive, Sudanese-owned political process. He highlighted the priority of establishing safe humanitarian corridors to guarantee unimpeded access to aid, reaffirming Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions.

The Egyptian foreign minister also stressed the importance of reducing tensions across the region to prevent further instability, advocating for diplomatic solutions and political settlements that bolster regional security. He highlighted the need to create conducive conditions for resuming dialogue between the United States and Iran on the Iranian nuclear file, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive settlement that accounts for the interests of all parties.

In turn, Kallas praised Egypt’s constructive role in promoting regional security, affirming that Egypt remains a key partner for the European Union.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and intensify consultations on regional developments in support of efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability.
