Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan to Meet Next Jan. over “GERD”

The U.S. Treasury Department said that the foreign ministers of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan are planning to meet in Washington on January 13, seeking to reach a final agreement on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), following their meeting held in Washington on Monday, in the presence of the secretary of the U.S. Treasury and the President of the World Bank.

During their meeting in Washington, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan expressed, in a joint statement, their appreciation for the role played by the United States and the World Bank in the file of the Renaissance Dam, stressing that they "noted the progress made in the technical meetings of the Ministers of Water Resources in Addis Ababa and Cairo."

The statement stressed that Ethiopia will implement the technical rules and guidelines of filling and operating the dam.

It is expected, according to the statement, that the upcoming meetings in Sudan and Ethiopia will set technical rules for filling and operating the dam.

The foreign ministers of the three countries also pointed out that they are looking forward to reviewing the outcomes of the upcoming technical meetings, during their meeting in Washington next January, with the aim of finalizing the final agreement.
