Egypt Denounces Israeli Ground Incursion into Southern Lebanon

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic has strongly denounced the Israeli ground incursion into southern Lebanon, describing it as a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a serious breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Egypt affirmed its full solidarity with the Lebanese state at this critical juncture, reiterating its categorical rejection of any infringement on Lebanon’s sovereignty or territorial integrity. The statement underscored Egypt’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty, calling for the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territory.

Egypt further urged the full and non-selective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, in a manner that enables Lebanese state institutions—foremost among them the Lebanese Armed Forces—to carry out their responsibilities and fully assert state authority across all Lebanese territory.

The statement also reiterated Egypt’s firm and principled position calling for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of all Israeli military operations against Lebanon, including ground incursions and airstrikes targeting Beirut and other areas.

Cairo strongly condemned the targeting of personnel and premises of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), describing such actions as clear violations of international law and established international norms.

Egypt warned that the continued escalation risks exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, intensifying civilian suffering, and has already resulted in the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.

The statement concluded with a call on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and take urgent and decisive action to compel Israel to halt its escalation and restore calm. Egypt stressed that such action is essential to prevent further deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation and to spare the region the grave consequences of a widening conflict.
