Egypt’s cabinet dismissed as “fabricated” a widely circulated document alleging new government measures to ration electricity, including daily power cuts of up to four hours nationwide starting next month.

In an official statement, the Egyptian Cabinet Media Center said the document, purportedly issued by the Cabinet, was entirely false and had no basis in any government decision or directive.

The viral claims suggested that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had approved a new energy-saving plan involving extended load-shedding periods and mandatory early closure of retail shops at 10:00 p.m. However, the media center категорically denied these assertions.

“There are no new official decisions or instructions regarding electricity rationing beyond current measures,” the statement said, warning that the document is part of misinformation efforts aimed at creating confusion among citizens.

Authorities urged the public to rely solely on verified sources for information and to avoid sharing unconfirmed reports circulating on social media platforms.

The clarification comes amid heightened public sensitivity over energy consumption policies, particularly as Egypt approaches the high-demand summer season.

Officials reiterated that any policy changes related to electricity usage or commercial operating hours would be formally announced via official accounts, stressing the importance of combating rumors that could disrupt public confidence.

As energy demand remains a key issue, the government continues to emphasize transparency while cautioning against the spread of misleading content online.
