Egypt has refuted Israeli claims about the presence of operational tunnels beneath the border area with the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military alleged on Sunday that they had discovered numerous underground tunnel routes in the Philadelphi Corridor.
According to Al-Qahera News channel, a high-ranking source affirmed that these claims "are an Israeli attempt to divert attention away from its failures in Gaza and to justify its aggression," citing a well-placed Egyptian source.
The Israeli army gained control of the Philadelphia Corridor, a demilitarized area between Egypt and Gaza, in May, a move strongly opposed by Cairo.
The source noted that Israel has not provided evidence of operational tunnels along the Gaza border and is using the existence of closed tunnels in Gaza to spread false claims for political purposes.
Furthermore, the source mentioned that Tel Aviv was disregarding the smuggling of weapons from Israel to the West Bank as "a pretext for seizing more West Bank lands and perpetuating violence and genocide against Palestinians."
