The trilateral summit between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece, set to take place on January 8 in Cairo, will focus on energy, regional security, economy and technology.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency on Friday, Cyprus government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis described the upcoming meeting as an important one, that contributes to strengthening the strategic cooperation between the three countries.

"The summit underlines the commitment, through the cooperation, to promote security, stability and prosperity in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region", he specified.

Letymbiotis said that the leaders will discuss issues such as energy and climate change, with Eastern Mediterranean becoming an energy security hub, as well as regional security and stability, through coordinated actions to address threats and illegal migration.

Economy and investment are also on the agenda, with the aim of strengthening economic cooperation in the sectors of tourism, technology and infrastructure, culture and education.

The last trilateral summit took place in Athens in October 2021. The foreign ministers of the three countries met last September in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Letymbiotis noted that this is a period of geopolitical challenges and the new trilateral summit sends a strong message of unity and stability, while at the same time reaffirming the common commitment to cooperating and promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean.

He added that the trilateral cooperation has become an institution, thus strengthening the role of the three countries as pillars of stability and progress.
