A press conference was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos, following the political consultations held between the two countries’ delegations on Friday, 5 September, in Nicosia.The Cypriot Foreign Minister praised the distinguished Egyptian–Cypriot relations and expressed his deep appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for directing the dispatch of two military aircraft to assist in efforts to extinguish the fires that broke out in Cyprus last July, noting their significant impact in containing the situation. He also stressed the importance of making use of seasonal labor and implementing the agreement on employing skilled and trained Egyptian workers in the construction, building, and agricultural sectors.
For his part, Minister Abdelatty commended the historical relations between Egypt and Cyprus, noting Cyprus’s upcoming assumption of the Presidency of the European Union in January. He expressed appreciation to Cyprus for its efforts in supporting Egyptian interests within the EU and for its role in strengthening Egyptian–European relations.
With regard to developments in Gaza, Minister Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s categorical rejection of any plans to displace the Palestinian people from their land or liquidate the Palestinian cause, condemning the expansion of Israeli military operations in Gaza and the continuation of genocide and starvation crimes against the Palestinian people.
