Egypt strongly condemned Israel's ongoing attacks on schools and facilities belonging to the UNRWA in the Gaza Strip. The recent bombing of the Al-Jaouni school in the Nuseirat refugee camp resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians, including six UNRWA staff members, women, and children. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the incident "totally unacceptable" and urged an immediate halt to such violations of international humanitarian law.
Egypt emphasized the need to stop the targeting of international humanitarian organizations and facilities and stressed the urgency of addressing the underlying causes of the suffering in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Egypt also called for influential international parties to ensure Israeli compliance with international humanitarian obligations.
Since the beginning of the conflict, Israeli forces have targeted vital infrastructure, displacing the majority of the 2.2 million inhabitants of Gaza. A survey by the Education Cluster found that over 90% of Gaza's school buildings have suffered severe or partial damage, with more than half of the schools accommodating displaced individuals being hit.
Despite international appeals for a ceasefire, the conflict has continued for more than 11 months, resulting in a high number of casualties and injuries in Gaza.
