Egypt is celebrating Martyr's Day on March 9 in recognition of its brave martyrs.

As part of the official celebration of the Egyptian martyrs, the Armed forces have organized different activities to commemorate the 54th anniversary of the martyrdom of Lieutenant-General Abdel Moneim Riyad. The events have been attended by veteran Egyptian patriots and their association, and government officials as well.

The Egyptian forces leaders also take this occasion to confer words of praise upon the army members and thank them for their dedicated efforts in the liberation of their land and their significant role in ending the Israeli aggregation, indicating that the martyrs are heroes found in most Egyptian families coming from the good sprouts of this land.

The main event, which took place at Al-Manara International Conference Centre in New Cairo, featured appearances by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Defence and Military Production Mohamed Zaki, Senate Speaker Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek, Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayyeb and head of the Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II

On this date every year, the Egyptians celebrate this special day by coming together and thanking their martyrs and old fighters for bringing them the prosperity that they are enjoying today.

Traditionally, this special and historical day brings a day of festivities across the country, and these celebrations have taken place for over 54 years, ever since the death of Lieutenant General Abdel-Moneim Riad who sacrificed his life for the sake of the nation.
