Mahmoud Esmat, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy announced that Libya has paid about $350 million of the total value of Egyptian electricity exports to the country.
The minister said that outstanding receivables owed by the Egyptian electricity sector from the Libyan side amount to approximately $490 million, noting that authorities are continuing efforts to collect the remaining dues in coordination with relevant parties.
The statement came during a meeting with journalists held at the Ministry of Electricity headquarters in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, where the minister reviewed regional cooperation files and external financial claims.
Esmat explained that the $350 million was paid over multiple periods as part of ongoing understandings and coordination between Egypt and Libya.
He stressed that the government is working to secure its financial rights within the framework of legal agreements governing bilateral cooperation.
The minister highlighted the long-standing energy partnership between Egypt and Libya, particularly in electricity interconnection projects, technical support, and expertise exchange.
