CAIRO, Apr.1. (SEE)- A new achievement was added to the Egypt's scientific achievements at the international level especially, under its current chairmanship of the African Union. Egypt has won the second chairmanship of the International Subcommittee for Africa and the neighboring countries islands for marine science of UNESCO.
Egypt is represented by the National Center for Oceanography and Fisheries with Dr. Mohamed Said elected as its president during the meeting of the General Assembly of the Committee in Nairobi on March. Also, Senegal and Madagascar won the post of vice president.
The committee, chaired by Egypt for the second period, is responsible for strengthening regional and international cooperation, developing and coordinating marine programs, ocean monitoring services, capacity development and activities related to Africa.
