Egypt increased its average fixed broadband speed 16-fold in recent years, reaching 91.3 Mbps, positioning the country as the fastest in Africa, Communications Minister Amr Talaat announced Saturday.
The announcement was made during the launch of Egypt’s 2026/30 Spectrum Strategy, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Talaat highlighted that the government has invested approximately $6 billion in upgrading both fixed broadband and mobile communications services. These investments aim to enhance service quality and capacity through expanding the number of mobile towers, and increasing spectrum allocations for telecom operators
“The goal is to provide citizens with faster, more reliable internet and prepare the country for advanced digital services,” Talaat said.
In addition to infrastructure, Talaat emphasized the government’s focus on digital skills development. The Ministry of Communications plans to train 800,000 individuals in technology skills during the current fiscal year — a 200-fold increase compared to 2018.
These efforts align with Egypt’s broader digital transformation objectives, supporting initiatives in artificial intelligence, IoT, smart cities, and fostering a competitive ICT sector that contributes to economic growth and regional leadership in digital innovation.
