Egypt will assume the presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) on February 1, 2026, for a one-month term, at a time marked by mounting security, political, and developmental challenges across the African continent. Egypt’s presidency comes amid complex regional and international conditions that require enhanced coordination and collective action to address evolving threats to peace and stability.

During its tenure, Egypt aims to strengthen the effectiveness of the Peace and Security Council as the African Union’s principal mechanism for conflict prevention, crisis management, and peacebuilding. The Egyptian presidency will promote a comprehensive approach that integrates peace, security, governance, and development, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 for sustainable development.

Egypt will also emphasize adherence to the core principles of the African Union’s Constitutive Act, including respect for state sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, and the preservation of national institutions. The presidency seeks to reinforce multilateral cooperation within the African Union framework as a foundation for achieving lasting stability and development across the continent.
