Egypt’s Cabinet has approved a draft presidential decree granting a pardon for the remainder of sentences to many convicted inmates, marking the upcoming Eid al-Fitr and Sinai Liberation Day on April 25, 2026.
The decision comes within the framework of periodic presidential pardons traditionally issued on major religious and national occasions. The move is intended to give eligible inmates an opportunity for reintegration into society under the legal conditions governing pardon decisions.
The Cabinet statement did not specify the number of beneficiaries, noting that the implementation procedures and eligibility criteria will be handled by the competent authorities in accordance with the relevant regulations.
The pardon initiative reflects the state’s broader policy of humanitarian consideration during major national and religious celebrations, while maintaining adherence to legal standards in reviewing cases.
