Egypt’s Ministry of Transport announced ticket and subscription prices for the first operational phase of the East Nile Monorail, which officially began service between El-Mosheer Tantawy Station and the City of Justice Station in the New Administrative Capital.

The ministry said the pricing structure was designed to make the monorail a competitive and affordable transportation option, with single-trip fares set at roughly half the cost of alternative transportation methods.

Officials also introduced discounted subscription packages offering reductions of up to 50%, effectively lowering commuting costs to nearly one-quarter of comparable private transport expenses for regular passengers.

According to the ministry, fares are divided into four travel zones based on the number of stations crossed along the monorail line.

A standard ticket covering one zone, equivalent to five stations, is priced at EGP 20, while trips covering two zones, or 10 stations, cost EGP 40.

Passengers traveling across three zones, equivalent to 15 stations, will pay EGP 55, while a full-line journey covering all 22 stations is priced at EGP 80.

Reduced fares are also available for senior citizens over the age of 60 and passengers with disabilities.

Under the discounted category, fares begin at EGP 10 for one zone and rise to EGP 40 for travel across the entire line.

Subscriptions

The ministry also introduced a range of subscription packages aimed at daily commuters.

A weekly pass valid for 14 trips over a 14-day period starts at EGP 140 for one zone and reaches EGP 560 for unlimited travel across the full line.

Monthly subscriptions, valid for 60 trips over 60 days, range from EGP 600 to EGP 2,400 depending on the number of travel zones selected.

Quarterly subscriptions covering 180 trips over 180 days start at EGP 1,800 and rise to EGP 7,200 for full-line access.

Officials said all subscription plans include a 50% discount compared with the cost of purchasing individual tickets.

The Transport Ministry noted that the currently operational section serving employees commuting to the New Administrative Capital includes 14 stations between El-Mosheer Tantawy Station and the Government District Station.

As a result, most commuters working in the capital’s government sector are expected to fall within the third fare zone under the current pricing system.

The East Nile Monorail forms part of Egypt’s broader strategy to modernize urban transportation infrastructure and reduce congestion in Greater Cairo, while supporting the rapid expansion of the New Administrative Capital east of Cairo.
