Egypt Announces Export of World's 1st Ammonia Shipment

The national strategy for green hydrogen was approved on Wednesday, in preparation for presentation to the Supreme Council of Energy.

It was noted in this regard that the vision of the strategy aims to make Egypt one of the leading countries in the green hydrogen economy in the world.

Ahmed Mahina pointed out, during a meeting, that the national strategy for green hydrogen aims to achieve an ambitious plan and reach a percentage ranging between 5 and 8% of the global hydrogen market. “The strategy also aims to achieve the benefits of the hydrogen economy represented in achieving energy security and reducing emissions.” Carbon dioxide by 40 million tons annually by 2040, creating 100,000 job opportunities by 2040, and increasing the gross domestic product at a rate of $10-18 billion by 2040.”

Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) said that the company “Vertiglobe” succeeded during the past few days in exporting the first shipment of ammonia in the world, which was produced in the company’s facilities in Egypt through hydrogen manufactured in the experimental electrolyser of the company’s project in Egypt to produce green hydrogen.

He pointed out that Vertiglobe announced that the shipment had been delivered to Tuticorin Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (TFL) in India, and that it would be used to produce soda ash for Hindustan Unilever (HUL) in India, a subsidiary of the Unilever group.

He pointed out that the "Vertiglobe" project, located in the SCZone will be able to produce 15,000 tons per year of green hydrogen as a primary raw material used to produce up to 90,000 tons per year of ammonia produced based on renewable energy sources.
