Egypt and 21 other countries, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, issued a joint statement strongly condemning the unauthorized visit of an Israeli official to the Somaliland region, which is part of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The statement described the visit as a blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and as a breach of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The joint statement reaffirmed the participating countries’ firm support for Somalia’s sovereignty and internationally recognized borders. It warned that encouraging separatist agendas threatens to deepen instability in an already fragile region and could lead to further escalation of tensions. The signatories stressed the importance of respecting international law, non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, and adherence to established diplomatic norms as essential foundations for regional and global stability.
The statement also praised Somalia’s commitment to peaceful international engagement, constructive diplomacy, and compliance with international law. It confirmed continued support for the diplomatic and legal measures taken by the Somali government to safeguard its sovereignty and national stability.
The signatories concluded by calling on Israel to fully respect Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, to abide by its international obligations, and to immediately withdraw any recognition related to the visit.
