Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has activated a nationwide state of emergency and raised preparedness levels across the power sector in response to anticipated severe weather conditions, according to an official statement.
Spokesperson Mansour Abdel Ghani said the decision came immediately following warnings issued by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, with measures implemented across electricity generation, transmission, and distribution systems to ensure grid stability and uninterrupted power supply.
A central operations room has been established at the ministry, linked to subsidiary company control centers across the country. Technical support, maintenance, and emergency response teams have also been deployed nationwide, alongside increased on-ground presence of senior officials to ensure rapid response to any disruptions.
The ministry’s plan includes securing vital and strategic facilities by providing alternative power sources, such as mobile generators, to guarantee continuous electricity supply to hospitals and other critical infrastructure. Authorities also confirmed that the national grid’s readiness has been thoroughly reviewed.
Citizens have been urged to exercise caution during adverse weather, particularly by avoiding proximity to lighting poles, electrical wires, and transformers during rainfall, and to promptly report any faults through official complaint channels.
