The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) imposed new sanctions on Zamalek after the Whites failed to show up for Monday's Cairo Derby.

In a statement, the EFA announced Al Ahly as the winners and three points will be deducted from the White Knights at the end of the ongoing season.

It also fined the Egyptian Super Cup champions EGP 200.000.

On Monday, February 24, Referee Gediminas Mazeika called off the Cairo’s derby match between Al Ahly and Zamalek after the White Knights failed to show up for the game on time.

The referee waited for 20 minutes on the pitch before abandoning the match.

The EFA had postponed the match for 60 minutes after the Whites’ bus failed to arrive in the stadium.

The Whites’ youth coach Ahmed Abdel-Maqsoud had confirmed that he was heading to the stadium with a youthful team but the bus is stuck in traffic.

On Sunday, Zamalek board of directors, chaired by Mortada Mansour decided not to resume the ongoing Egyptian Premier League season.

“The club will not play any matches in the Egyptian league in the presence of the Current EFA’s normalization committee headed by Amr El-Ganainy,” the White Knights’ board of directors said in a statement.

This decision came in response to the recent penalties imposed by the disciplinary committee of the EFA on a number of Al-Ahly and Zamalek players, due to the clashes, which broke out after the Super Cup match.

It is worth mentioning Zamalek managed to lift their fourth Super Cup title after defeating Al Ahly 4-3 on penalties.
