Dozens of ultra-Orthodox Jews, known as "Haredim," protested on Monday, blocking the road outside the Tel Hashomer recruitment center to denounce the Israeli army's attempts to recruit them.
The Israeli newspaper "The Jerusalem Post" reported that the demonstrators were sitting on the road, blocking vehicles, before being forcibly dispersed by police.
The newspaper noted that of the approximately 10,000 draft orders issued over the past two months, only 994 Haredim reported to the recruitment center. Arrest warrants were issued for another 2,491 on charges of draft evasion, and 184 others were placed under travel bans preventing them from leaving Israel.
