The Director of the Library of Alexandria Dr. Mostafa El-Feqi, and the President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, inaugurated yestrrday, Monday, the Science Museum in Tanta, which is the first of its kind in Egypt.
The museum is located at the West Tanta Research Center; affiliated to the Academy of Scientific Research.
It includes attractive interactive experiences and exhibitions covering different scientific fields, with the aim of automatically communicating scientific information and theories to the visitor while he explores the experiences and exhibits in the museum halls.
In his speech during the opening ceremony, Dr. Al-Feqi stressed the need to devote efforts to creating a generation capable of spreading culture and creativity in all fields "if we are looking for another Ahmed Zewail".
Al-Feqi emphasized that the key to progress is science, and that civilizations and cultures were not built except with science, but with peoples also advanced and nations developed.
Al-Feqi pointed out the need to pay attention to this culture from a young age and simplify the sciences for children, calling for the return of the simplified scientific programs that were shown on Egyptian television, and were widely watched.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Head of the Cultural Communication Sector at the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Muhammad Suleiman, President of Tanta University Dr. Emad Othman and senior officials of Gharbia Governorate and the Library of Alexandria.
The President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology Dr. Mahmoud Saqr said: "The Library of Alexandria is a cultural and scientific foundation that Egypt should benefit from, especially in the field of scientific museums and the simplification of science, which it is considered a pioneer in."
He stressed that the Academy received proposals from several parties to establish the museum, but preferred the library for its distinction.
Dr. Saqr pointed out that scientific culture is not entertainment, but rather one of the strategic goals of countries that seek to achieve development.
He added that the Academy is looking into the possibility of expanding the establishment of similar museums in other governorates across the country in cooperation with the library.
On his part, the Head of the Cultural Communication Sector at Alexandria Library Dr. Muhammad Soliman, emphasized that the Scientific Museum operates as an interactive scientific facility dedicated to facilitating science and making it more interesting to the public. That is through a variety of innovative and interactive activities that provide scientific information, clarify it and explain its importance in what we see, hear and touch in our daily life, by spreading science and technology among school students and the public in general.
The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology has partnered with the Library of Alexandria in establishing and equipping the interactive science museum in the city of Tanta, on the first floor of the West Delta Research Center, under the slogan "Have fun and play with science"
The Science Museum consists of a group of experimental and scientific topics in various fields, so that it deals with everything related to the human being, the human body and the surrounding environment, as well as astronomy, as the museum is pided into three sections:
• Discover your body: The visitor experiences his five senses and learns more about some parts and functions of his body.
• Explore your environment: The visitor learns about some forms of energy and also transforms energy sources from one form to another.
• Explore space: The visitor gets to know the planet Earth and the differences between it and the rest of the planets of the solar system
The cooperation between the library and the Academy began several years ago, due to the great harmony between the visions of the two ancient institutions in harnessing all efforts and resources to support Egypt's promising youth.
For school students, this had a prominent effect on discovering many young talents, which could be relied upon in the future within the framework of the current state’s efforts to prove presence in the ranks of producing countries, not consuming technology.
