Egypt has emerged as one of the strongest performers in long-haul travel from Germany, recording the highest growth among major non-European destinations during the 2025 summer season, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
The new figures show that 1.4 million travellers from Germany flew to Egypt between April and October 2025, making it the second most popular long-haul destination after the United States. This represents a 12.3% increase compared with last summer and a 15% rise above pre-pandemic levels—one of the sharpest recoveries recorded outside Europe.
Analysts say Egypt’s strong performance reflects its continued appeal as a year-round destination combining beaches, cultural tourism, and competitive packages, alongside improved air connectivity from major German airports.
Although the United States retained the top spot with 4.5 million travellers, its numbers dipped by 1.4% compared to last year. In contrast, Egypt was the clear growth leader among long-haul markets.
Across all destinations, 68.5 million passengers travelled abroad from Germany’s main airports during the 2025 summer season, up 4.6% from a year earlier. Despite the growth, outbound travel remained 2.8% below summer 2019 levels, before the pandemic caused a collapse in global passenger numbers.
