The death toll from a fire at a clothing factory and warehouse in Helmeyet El-Zeitoun has risen to eight, after one of the injured victims died in hospital. A total of 17 people were also injured in the incident.
The fire broke out in a ground-floor factory and storage facility located in a 12-storey residential building on Saraya El-Qobba Street in Cairo’s Zeitoun district. Emergency services responded quickly after receiving reports of the blaze, with civil protection units and firefighting teams deployed to the scene.
Authorities said several fire engines were dispatched, and a security cordon was established around the site to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Utilities were cut off as a precaution while firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
Officials confirmed that the fire has been contained, with cooling operations still ongoing to prevent reignition. Executive authorities were also present at the scene to inspect surrounding properties and assess any structural impact caused by the incident.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
