The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 12,000, according to Sky News .
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced, on Wednesday evening, that the death toll from the earthquake that struck his country had risen to 9,057.
Erdogan said that the number of deaths from the earthquake rose to 9,057, while the number of the injured ones reached 52,979, according to the official Turkish Anadolu Agency.
According to the Turkish president, the earthquake destroyed 6,444 homes.
He pointed out that 60,000 personnel are participating in the search and rescue operations, including volunteers and teams from outside the country
