A new “Cruel Intentions” TV series is in the works at IMDb TV.
The new series is inspired by the 1999 movie of the same name that was adopted from the novel “Dangerous Liaisons”.
It focuses on two ruthless step-siblings who will do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputations after a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Greek life hierarchy at an elite Washington, D.C. college.
In 2016, NBC had attempted to develop a follow-up to the movie with one of the movie's original stars, Sarah Michelle Gellar, reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil. It was ultimately not picked up.
Prior to that, Fox attempted to create a prequel series that was canceled before its debut, however, three episodes were developed into the direct-to-video movie “Cruel Intentions 2" in 2001. Another direct-to-video sequel, “Cruel Intentions 3,” was released in 2004.
The new version will be written and executive produced by Phoebe Fisher with Sara Goodman.
Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film will also executive produce. Moritz served as a producer on the original movie, while he and Shetty executive produced the NBC pilot.
Andrea Iervolino and Monica Bacardi of Iervolino and Lady Bacardi Entertainment will also executive produce the IMDb TV series along with Bruce Mellon.
