Russia has reported a significant decline in the daily coronavirus cases detected with only 5940 new people testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing its total infection tally to 777,486.

“It also reported 85  new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 12,427,” media sources said.

It is worth mentioning that, Russia plans to produce 30 million doses of an experimental COVID-19 vaccine domestically this year, with the potential to manufacture a further 170 million abroad, according to the head of the country’s sovereign wealth fund.

In exclusive statements to Reuters, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) head Kirill Dmitriev said that a larger phase III trial involving several thousand people is expected to begin in August.

“We believe that based on the current results it will be approved in Russia in August and in some other countries in September…, making it possibly the first vaccine to be approved in the world,” he added.

Russia announced last Sunday that Sechenov University has successfully completed the clinical trials on volunteers of the world’s first vaccine against Coronavirus (COVID-19).

It is worth mentioning that, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared coronavirus a global pandemic as the new virus has rapidly spread from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.

Transmission of virus between humans happens when someone comes into contact with an infected person’s secretions, such as droplets in a cough.
