Hong Kong extended the suspension of face-to-face classes at schools for two weeks till March 6, the Education Bureau announced on Monday.
The Education Bureau said in-person classes at kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as tutorial schools will be suspended until March 6 due to COVID-19.
During the suspension period, students cannot do any activities at the campuses but they will do it online at home. Schools are reminded to comply with health guidelines provided by the Centre for Health Protection.
On February 4, the Hong Kong government announced extending a work-from-home plan for civil servants amid a worsening COVID-19 outbreak.
All civil servants, who had been due to resume work on Friday, will remain working from home until Feb. 11. The decision excludes those involved with essential and urgent work.
Health officials stated that many untraceable transmission chains of the Omicron variant were spreading across the global financial hub. The growing covid cases came as many Hongkongers enjoy Lunar New Year gatherings.
In January, Hong Kong’s Home Affairs Minister Caspar Tsui resigned from his post for attending a birthday party, breaking the Covid-19 restrictions.
“I have today tendered my resignation to the Chief Executive and intend to leave the post today,” Tsui said in a statement. “As one of the Principal Officials taking the lead in the anti-epidemic fight, I have not set the best example during the recent outbreak.”
