COVID-19 Cases in Africa Surpass 8 Million

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections reached eight milion and 66 thousands cases, including 204 thousand deaths, media agencies reported on Wednesday.

Regarding the number of recoveries, it reached seven milion and 356 thousand cases.

Therefore, the percentage of African persons who received at least the first of vaccine is 5.12%, on the other hand, only 2.96% were fully vaccinated.

Moreover, 70, million vaccine doses were delivered to the African states.

Africa is still depending on exporting COVID-19 vaccines, so there is a plan for establishing continental hubs for producing and distributing vaccines in several African countries such as South Africa.

It is worthy to mention that Egypt is one of the earliest countries that started to localizing the production of several COVID-19 vaccines such as Sinovac.

After reaching an agreement with China, the state started producing the vaccine with the participation of Chinese experts. The locally manufactured vaccine went into a strict process of evaluation- 11 tests before it was approved.

Also, the early production of the vaccine went into eight-week studies to be compared to the original production of China.

Finally, Egypt succeeded in delivering the first one million locally manufactured Sinovac doses according to the agreement signed between Sinovac and Vacsera. They were distributed to all vaccination centers in Egypt as Sinovac was approved for emergency use on August 23.

Moreover, Sinovac approved its safety and effectiveness against Coronavirus based on the standards of the World Health Organization.
