Coronavirus: Nutritional Advice for 'Thanaweya Amma' Students during Exams

The exceptional Thanaweya Amma (High school) exams started and the country is still suffering from coronavirus. The students now have to leave their houses and go to the exams.

Regardless of the precautionary measures like not getting close to people and not shaking hands and making sure that any surface is sterilized before touching it, washing hands well every time, using alcohol, and wearing the masks.

Here is a new set of food warnings by Dr. Gehan El Demerdash Specialist of Dietitian and Nutrition for the Thanaweya Amma so that the exam period can pass safely.

1- Students must avoid fast and hearty meals because it affects focus, causes lethargy, and causes the desire to sleep.

2-They should avoid foods rich in saturated fats, especially fried, because these food cause students to feel lethargic, lazy, and sleepy. These foods include fried potatoes, hot dogs, fried chicken, and yellow cheese such as turkey and highly processed energy-dense foods.

 

Avoid some kind of foods

3- They should avoid sugars: The simple sugar can cause rising the level of hyperglycemia suddenly and then decrease again, which causes inactivity and laziness such as chocolate, sweetened cocoa drink, processed juices, cakes, and sweets. Sugar also weakens the immune system.

4- They should stay away from soda water as it leads to indigestion and digestive disorders

5- White flour has the same effects of the white sugar in rising the level of hyperglycemia suddenly and then lowering it again, which causes lethargy and laziness, as well as fast turn into fats. The white flour foods include French bread, pizza, pate, and all pastries.

6- They should avoid having tea, Nescafe, coffee and all stimuli, in order not to cause insomnia

Finally, the dietitian wishes students good health and return home to stay safe and fight the Coronavirus.
