The World Health Organization said, on Tuesday, that 53 countries in Europe said that three million Coronavirus infections last week hit three million cases.

Coronavirus cases tripled across the region in the past six weeks which represented almost half of global infections, the WHO added.

Furthermore, the rates of hospital admission regarding Coronavirus cases also jumped by double, on the other hand, the levels of admission to intensive care are still low.

The world organization Europe director Dr Hans Kluge said that COVID-19 is: "a nasty and potentially deadly illness."

Klug added that the subvariants of Omicron are superinfections and they are causing more waves of the virus, asserting: “With rising cases we’re also seeing a rise in hospitalisations, which are only set to increase further in the autumn and winter months."

Therefore, the organziation called for more procedures such as giving a second booster dose for those who have weak immune systems and applying mask-wearing in public transportation.

“We’re all aware of the tools we have to keep ourselves safe, assess our level of risk and take the necessary steps to protect others if we get infected,” he added.

US “Johns Hopkins University” announced yesterday that the number of confirmed cases with the emerging Coronavirus “Covid-19” around the world rose to 562 million, 414 thousand and 778 cases.

The university reported, in the latest statistics published on its website, today, Monday, that the total number of deaths around the world rose to 6 million, 369 thousand and 454 deaths.
