A large container ship sank outside the port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on Friday after leaking water over the past day.
The Taiwan News reported that the Palau-flagged container ship began leaning badly on the port side on Thursday and although Taiwan International Ports Corporation, which manages Kaohsiung port, tried to save the ship, it sank.
The newspaper added that a large number of containers fell into the sea, noting that the total tonnage of the ship is 16,145 tons.
The Taiwan Port Corporation asked the shipowner to submit a plan to salvage the wreck, refloat the ship and extract the oily water of the sunken ship in accordance with the Commercial Ports Law.
In addition, the company sent ships to monitor the area around the sunken ship.
