Commissioner Šuica visits Egypt to strengthen EU-Egypt Partnership and discuss New Pact for the Mediterranean

Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica will be in Egypt on Sunday, 2 March. This visit takes place in the context of a series of high-level consultations conducted by Commissioner Šuica to shape the New Pact for the Mediterranean. The Pact – currently being developed in close cooperation with Mediterranean partners and Member States –will address shared challenges, by fostering people to people relations, economic growth, and strengthening regional security and stability.

This visit also reaffirms the strong ties between the EU and Egypt and serves as an occasion to take stock of the implementation of the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, signed in March 2024.

Commissioner Šuica will meet with Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of Egypt; Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt; Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates; and Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation. Moreover, she will sign together with the Egyptian Government the project ‘Egypt Food Resilience’, worth €90 million and co-funded by the EU and the European Investment Bank.

During the visit, Commissioner Šuica will also address Egypt’s efforts to advance on its political and economic reforms, in line with the EU’s Macrofinancial Assistance package and the priorities of the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership. In this context, the EU will continue to work with its our partners to attract EU’s investments in Egypt, especially in clean technology and renewable energy.
