Colombia has officially terminated its two-year Flexible Credit Line (FCL) arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), effective October 1, in a move seen as a vote of confidence in the country’s economic resilience and policy framework.

The FCL arrangement, initially approved by the IMF Executive Board on April 26, 2024, provided Colombia with access to SDR 6.1335 billion (approximately US$8.4 billion). The line was treated as precautionary and never drawn upon.

"The cancellation reflects the Colombian authorities’ confidence in their macroeconomic fundamentals, external buffers, and ability to access international capital markets without IMF support," said an IMF spokesperson.

Colombia’s decision to cancel the FCL comes amid signs of steady economic recovery, improving external accounts, and resilient fiscal management. The country’s most recent Article IV consultation, concluded on September 29, 2025, reaffirmed its commitment to structural reforms and inflation targeting.

Colombia has been a member of the IMF since 1945 and currently holds a quota of SDR 2,044.5 million (around US$2.8 billion).

The Flexible Credit Line, first introduced in 2009, is designed for countries with very strong economic fundamentals and policy frameworks. It provides immediate access to substantial financial resources without conditionality, serving as a buffer against external shocks.
