CNN has revealed that negotiations are currently underway between a U.S. delegation and Hamas, in an effort to find a resolution to the escalating crisis in Gaza. The talks are reportedly being led by Palestinian-American businessman Bishara Bahbah.
According to sources cited by the network, former U.S. President Donald Trump is deeply frustrated by the harrowing images of starving children in Gaza and the slow pace of diplomatic efforts. The same sources indicated that Israeli attempts to prolong military operations are further complicating negotiations.
In a notable shift, Trump is now reportedly engaging more directly in mediation efforts alongside traditional intermediaries Egypt and Qatar. His administration is relying on Bahbah as a trusted envoy to open channels of communication with Hamas. Bahbah is currently in Doha holding talks with leaders of the Palestinian movement.
Bahbah first emerged as a key figure in Israel-Hamas negotiations during the successful release of American hostage Edan Alexander. His influence on Hamas leadership was seen as instrumental in securing Alexander’s freedom.
Sources also suggest that Hamas is looking to present a constructive initiative to the Trump administration. The positive outcome of Alexander’s release has reportedly strengthened Trump’s trust in Bahbah and his potential to deliver progress in this latest round of negotiations.
