Chinese Prime Minister (PM) Li Qiang arrived in Seoul on Sunday to participate in a trilateral summit with his counterparts from South Korea and Japan, marking their first three-way meeting in more than four years.

The three countries agreed to hold an annual summit since 2008 to support regional cooperation, but the initiative faced challenges due to bilateral disputes and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials in Seoul said that South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Li will issue a joint statement on six areas, including economy, trade, science and technology, people-to-people exchanges, health, and population aging.

Yoon is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Li and Kishida on Sunday before their trilateral meeting on Monday.
