On Sunday, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a report titled "The State of Democracy in the United States" on its website.

The paper, which is based on facts and expert opinions, strives to demonstrate the shortcomings and abuses of democracy in the United States, as well as the harm that such democracy can cause when it is exported. It is hoped that the United States will strengthen its own democratic system and practices, as well as adjust its approach to dealing with other countries, according to the report.

The paper comprises two parts: "What is democracy?" and "The alienation and three malaises of democracy in the United States," in addition to the prologue and conclusion.

Democracy is a universal value that all people share. Democracy is a right for all nations, not a privilege held for a select few, according to the research, which also noted that democracy takes many forms and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

It went on to add that measuring the world's numerous political systems with a single yardstick or examining different political civilizations from a single perspective would be completely undemocratic.

According to the research, a country's political system should be decided independently by its own people.

It was stated that the establishment of democracy in the United States was a stride forward in history. The feudal dictatorship in Europe was negated and reformed by the political party system, the representative system, one person, one vote, and the separation of powers.

According to the report, democracy in the United States has become alienated and degraded over time, deviating progressively from the essence of democracy and its original design.

The research looked at the alienation and malaises of democracy in the United States from three perspectives: the deeply flawed system, messy and chaotic democratic practices, and the devastating effects of the United States exporting its brand of democracy.

According to the research, the United States must now get to work in earnest to protect its citizens' democratic rights and strengthen its democratic system, rather than focusing too much on procedural or formal democracy at the expense of substantive democracy and its outcomes.

The international community is now confronted with pressing global challenges, ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to the economic slowdown to the climate change crisis, according to the report, which calls on all countries to rise above system differences, reject the zero-sum game mentality, and pursue genuine multilateralism.

According to the study, all countries must promote peace, development, equity, justice, democracy, and freedom, which are universal human values.

According to the study, all countries must respect one another, try to expand common ground while putting differences aside, promote cooperation for mutual benefit, and work together to form a community with a shared destiny for humanity.

The complete content of the report can be seen in the attachment or on the foreign ministry's website.
